UPDATES FROM VAAC

VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT FAIR
New Year, New Possibilities!

Come and join us at our exciting Volunteer Recruitment Fair taking place at Rustington Methodist Church on Saturday 13th January 2024 from 10.30am-1.30pm. It’s your opportunity to meet potential new recruits, discuss the roles you have available, hopefully sign up some great new volunteers and network with your fellow community groups and Charities. VAAC staff will also be on hand to offer expert advice you might not even know you need!

There are 30 spaces available, but they are booked fast! In the spirit of fairness, we will operate on a first come, first served basis - so please book your place early to avoid disappointment. Tables and chairs will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring display materials for your table and banners to showcase your organisation.

Our focus for this event is ‘New Year, New Possibilities’ - let’s work together to show all the benefits of volunteering in 2024 and explain all the new possibilities a voluntary role can open up!

If you’d like to attend, please email [email protected]. Its free!

COST OF LIVING CRISIS

We now have a dedicated page on our website where we will be compiling all the information, resources and guidance that comes out in relation to the Cost of Living Crisis, and the impact on Voluntary Sector organisations. We will endeavour to share important updates through this e-bulletin as well, but please do keep an eye on the webpage to ensure you keep up to date with any changes or news.

British Land have commissioned the Centre for Charity Effectiveness at Bayes Business School to produce a series of factsheets to help their partners access the support they need, particularly as inflation increases the cost of energy, rent, supplies and wages. These factsheets will provide a range of information and links to resources covering topics from planning and operations to strategy and governance, and economic resilience during a time of crisis. They will aim to update and reissue this resource on a monthly basis for a further three months.

Funding News:

The McCarthy Stone Foundation’s Christmas Connections Programme is all about connecting older adults over the Christmas period. Grants of up to £1,000 will be available to support organisations running activities for people over 65 in their community over the festive period.

Big Issue Invest (BII), the investment arm of the Big Issue Group (BIG), is calling for applications to its Social Impact Debt Fund IV (Fund IV): a private debt fund, which will lend to organisations across the UK looking to grow their social impact. The fund will focus on three core sectors – health and social care, affordable housing and social infrastructure (for example co-working spaces, education & training, nurseries and arts organisations). It offers loans of £1m to £4m, typically backed by property assets and where BII will be the sole lender.

Applications are open for the second edition of the Big Give‘s Anchor Match Fund for 2023, which will help charities to run their own match funding campaigns. The Big Give will contribute £1,000 of match funds for every £4,000 that charities raise from pledges (match funds from their own supporters), up to a maximum of £10,000 per charity. Campaigns will close on 31st December 2023.

The National Lottery Community Fund’s Million Hours Fund (phase two) offers funding of £30,000 to £100,000 for organisations to give extra support to young people in areas where they may be at risk of anti-social behaviour.  Deadline: 12 noon, 24th November 2023.

Cash4Clubs is offering unrestricted grants of £2,000 to help sustain the UK’s community sports clubs/organisations who are in need and may be threatened with closure due to the cost-of-living crisis. Applications open on 18th October 2023 and will be accepted between October and December 2023. Winners will be notified in early 2024.

Crowdfunder has launched the £500,000 Cost of Living Resilience Fund to assist social sector organisations in areas of deprivation in England who are providing services to support people struggling with the rising cost of living. The fund will close when all the funding is allocated (this is a match-funding initiative and thus not a traditional grant scheme).
